Up Up and Away…

Breaking Bread International meals

Now that all of the hub bub of the holidays is over, we can resume Monday Night Dining. This week also marks our return to rehearsals, as we start to learn Elgar’s – The Apostles. We are about to head up up and away, on a new musical journey, and this one is gonna be HUGE!  For me it’s always exciting, and a bit scary starting a new work, but I have the rest of the choir and Steph to help me.

Since it is our first week back, we decided to take it easy, with an Italian meal and just our trio and Luke. Once we were all gathered and had a moment to catch up, we started our meal with Duck confit ravioli, with thyme velouté.

The best part is that the ravioli were already in the freezer, from another batch. Shawn really managed to get a lot of filling in these bad boys, without having them split. It gave a nice pasta to filling ratio, and the sauce was velvety and delicious.

For the main, we went to an old favorite that we had on one of our very first, per-blog dinners, Chicken Milanese with braised green beans.

I have said it before, if you have not tried these braised beans, do yourself a favour and click the link above, for the recipe.

While the tea was brewing, we had a chance to talk a bit about the up coming rehearsals and our spring show, along with the upcoming “Up up and away” fundraising gala on Jan 28th (click below to buy your tickets)…

For dessert, we tried a twist on a traditional Italian dessert, Limoncello Tiramisu.

Honestly tiramisu is not my favorite dessert, but with the addition of lemon, in 3 forms (zest, juice and liqueur) it makes for a bright refreshing dessert. I don’t know what we were thinking making a 13X9 pan of dessert for 4 people, but then again we have treats for the rest of the week.

Tonight seemed a fairly relaxed pace, so I guess we did not lose our touch over the holidays, but we must head off to start rehearsals for our last show of the season.

One more shameless plug, do consider buying a ticket for our winter fundraising gala, by clicking the link below. The gallery is a beautiful space, the décor should be colourful and breezy, and the food and wine will be lovely.  We will have live entertainment, including the York Jazz trio and Meredith Hall (one of our brilliant soloists for The Apostles). There are also Live and silent auctions, including weekend getaways; a night on the town with dinner and a show; stunning art and jewellery and much more. We are also auctioning off a gourmet meal for 6 people prepared by the Monday Night Dining duo. Yes Shawn and Dave will come you your house, cook for you and your guests and you will get a mention on this very blog!!!  But you need to attend, to bid.
